5 tips for your first holyday on a sail boat or catamaran

WHERE AND WHEN
The holyday on board is, of course, mainly a summer vacation and our Mediterranean Sea can offer various options in spring autumn and summer while, if you want to move away a bit, you can find more exotic destinations like The Caribbean to enjoy you sail cruise or catamaran cruise even in winter.
Here we want to give a more practical and professional advice: choose a place where there are many islands (North Sardinia, Tuscany Archipelago, A beeolian Islands, Croatia, Greece), because the catamaran or sail boat cruise could easily be affected by bad weather. So with many Isles available, a skipper that knows his job can a solution to find a shelter or avoid to remain stopped in an harbour while, if you are on the coast with no Islands and the wind is blowing toward it you will be forced to enter the port (the matter of shelters will be carefully treated during our skipper course). Concerning the period we can say that the vacation on a sail boat or catamaran is strongly affected by the weather and so the season. Avoiding the “high season” means sparing money and having less traffic problems. So the months of May, June, September or October means for the first two months having more daylight and shorter days in the second two. The weather, generally, is better in the month of July and in the first half of August.

BOAT OR CATAMARAN
No doubts: the catamaran is the most suitable means for your first holyday on board. For those who are not used to sail the catamaran is again the best choice if comfort and relax are the priorities. If you are purely interested in sail sailing and practising it as sport, maybe, the mono hull is the best solution for you (in this case a fast sport boat will be better that a cruise boat).

SKIPPER?
Taking the skipper is always the best choice. Even if you have a licence and some experience, the responsibilities to be assumed could make you not fully enjoy your sail boat cruise or catamaran cruise. Moreover the skipper, generally, has a deep knowledge of bays, sea grounds where to drop the anchor, shelters, currents, buoy fields, harbour, locals and restaurants (sometimes with free mooring services) managers which is no small matter, in particular when navigating in unknown places with heavy traffic.

WITH WHO
Avoid to share the boat with unknown persons. During your sail boat vacation or catamaran vacation different expectations, habits could raise up and bring to unpleasant situation. The best solution is planning your sail boat cruise or catamaran cruise together with well known persons or with persons with whom you already travelled with.

CONCLUSION
We strictly advice to deal only with local official and possibly big charter companies. Avoid to deal with unknown small boat owners which are not officially acknowledged. Plan your sail boat cruise or catamaran cruise together with the charter company and explain which are your expectations desire and needs.
